Labia Reduction
Introduction:
Labiaplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure that changes the shape and size of the labia in order to create a more pleasing aesthetic appearance and improved comfort.
Considerations:
Do you want minimal labial reduction where only a small portion is trimmed?
Do you want a more significant labia reduction that leaves very minimal labia minora behind?
Do you want reshaping of an unusually shaped labia without actually reducing the labia?
You also need to take into consideration the size and shape of your outer labia (labiamajora ) as well as the clitoris and clitoral hood. Some women have a very prominent clitoris. In these situations it is impossible to reduce the size of the clitoris, therefore additional procedures may be necessary to reposition the clitoris, otherwise labia reduction will leave behind a disproportionately prominent clitoris. Additionally, the clitoral hood should not be trimmed, otherwise it may result in a significant discomfort which will be difficult to correct.
Another question that you need to ask yourself is whether or not you really wish to have labia reduction surgery. Once the labia is reduced, it is very difficult to recreate it.
Labia size may increase over time due to aging, sexual activity, or childbirth. It should not be considered an indicator of any illness or disease. It is simply a cosmetic problem.
Am I a good candidate Labia Reduction?
If you are insecure about the appearance of your labia, or you experience pain because of the size or shape of your labia, you could well be a good candidate for labiaplasty. For such patients, this procedure can boost wellbeing and confidence.
About Your Procedure:
How is a labia reduction procedure performed?
Labiaplasty is a relatively simple surgical procedure that reduces the size of the outer labia (labia majora) or the inner labia (inner labia). The surgery typically takes around 30 minutes to perform, and most patients experience a very fast recovery, returning to work within a day or two.
The Trim Technique
The Trim Technique is the most commonly performed type of labiaplasty. During this procedure, a longitudinal section of the excess labia is removed in order to reduce the labia to an optimum size, creating a perfectly symmetrical shape. This is the most favored labiaplasty surgery as it has low complication rates that make recovery and healing a simple process for patients.
Preparing For Your Procedure:
How do I prepare for a labia reduction procedure?
There is nothing you need to do physically to prepare for labiaplasty aside from stopping smoking and stopping herbal medications and supplements, fish oils and omega 3s two weeks prior to your surgery. You should, however, be very mindful of exactly you want to achieve from the surgery in order to achieve the best results.
Aftercare And Recovery
After labiaplasty surgery, you will have bruising, swelling, and minor discomfort in the groin area. Swelling and bruising will be most noticeable after the first day and will slowly subside over a period of 2 to 3 weeks. Some spotting after labia reduction is normal and should stop after a few days. Your stitches will be dissolvable and will not need to be physically removed. It will take full 3 months for the labia to heal completely.
How Long Will My Results Last?
Labia reduction is usually permanent. Once you reduce the size of the labia, it is very difficult to recreate it, and so you should be completely sure that you desire this surgery before committing to it.
Limitations And Risks:
As with all surgical procedures, there are general risks involved with labiaplasty. With regards to labial reduction, there are special considerations that need to be taken into account. These include bleeding, infection, and breaking of the stitches which may lead to the opening of your wounds. Labiaplasty is, however, a very routine procedure, and complications are very rare.
